Suspected poems "unpublished" Neruda.

By Mario Casasus

The representative in Spain of the Neruda Foundation, Balcells literary agency, has committed an offense by signing the contract with the publisher to publish Edaf posthumous anthology of Pablo Neruda. The edition, owned by Mr. Manuel Marquez de la Plata is a counterfeit of the original book Popular Anthology 1972 Neruda.

Edaf takes refuge in the contract signed with the Agency Balcells, which was behind the Pablo Neruda Foundation (FPN), since neither Juan Agustín Figueroa, and Francisco Torres, president and CEO of the FPN, respectively, knew that Edaf reissue, at no time was compared with existing files in Santiago, Chile, Spain, Cuba and England which validates the property counterfeiting Marquez de la Plata, who as editor is lying again, as it claims to be the first to publicize the existence of the People's Anthology Neruda, when in 1984, in Havana, is quoted on page 7 of the book: In the heart of a poet Pablo Neruda (selection, introduction and notes Llorach Esteban Ramos) fragments of the prologue of Salvador Allende, "Taken from the People's Poetry Anthology Pablo Neruda Arce made by Homer and the Popular Unity government distributed free of charge among the people of Chile in 1972" (Cuban Book Institute, first edition 1984, reprint: 1988, 1997 and 1999), long before Hernán Loyola (in Annals Universidad de Chile, 1973), Hugo Gutiérrez Vega (Letter to Neruda, 1973) and Virginia Vidal (Magazine Mapocho, Chile 1994) described the Popular Anthology 1972 from Chile and Mexico . Most imprecision editor Marquez de la Plata, is the posthumous anthology (Edaf, 2004) is the only work compiled by Neruda, when in 1953 came two anthologies, a political Poetry (editorial Austral) and whole love (original Editorial Nascimento) and the second edition published by Losada, 1968 and 1971 (Library Classical and Contemporary) to complete poems including The Captain's Verses (1953) to La Barcarolle (1967), not to mention in his Anthology 1970 (Santiago de Chile) by Editorial Nascimento. Popular Anthology 1972 would be the fifth compilation of Neruda by Neruda life.

Perhaps, "the seller Galician" (an anonymous antiquarian Vigo, Spain) was the one who changed the dates, copyright and original design; Marquez de la Plata, then, would have no liability for counterfeiting, that of not compare their " finding "with files preserved in America and Europe and / or specialists in the life and work of Neruda. I do not recall a case of forgery in literature with these characteristics (for facsimile editions piracy, but this is the height) Neruda has unwittingly become a painter plagiarized, whose lithographs apocryphal sold in five countries of Latin America: Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain and across the land by Internet; against that Neruda: "Reiterates precise inquiries to be observed in making the Anthology (1972). Demands that the recommendations will be strictly enforced, especially those relating to the punctuation marks. 'I insist because I know from experience how stubborn you are correcting. Lids should not take photographs, or drawings. The only thing I like is the clear and splendid typography. "(Neruda by Volodia Teitelboim, Ed Losada, 1985, page 379). The Spanish publisher Edaf has invented a cover with the title posthumous anthology of Pablo Neruda, and the incredible thing is that added a photo oval. No book has Pablo Neruda original photograph on the cover, there is no need to refer to the letter addressed to Neruda advisor to President Allende (Antonio Benedicto) recovered by Volodia Teitelboim. Edaf includes, without authorization, in his posthumous anthology Neruda letter to Salvador Allende (September 6, 1972) issued by Volodia Teitelboim since 1984 and compiled by Hernán Loyola in the Complete Works of the poet, but ignores this second letter clarifies what we all know: since the first edition of Crepusculario (1923) to Twenty Love Poems ... (1924) Reaching the last book published in his lifetime Neruda epic song (editorial Quimantú 1973) the only thing that fills a cover is typography. Matilde Urrutia account on the first page of his memoirs that the day of the coup Pinochet on September 11, 1973: "We hoped also to José Miguel Varas, who brought him to Paul what he loved most receive: a newly printed book. The printing press that day Quimantú threw an edition of his book Song feat. It would be a busy day, it would be the culmination of many hours of work. " (My Life with Pablo Neruda, Seix Barral, 1986). We're talking about that first graphic and historically counterfeited a book of Neruda, and the Agency has legalized Balcells literary plagiarism advantage of time and circumstances of military fascism.

Balcells Agency now seems to make the same mistake when validating as "unpublished poems of Neruda" something published in 1967 and collected in the Complete Works of the poet. On 7 September, the news came in the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, (played by El Universal of Mexico on September 8) on the recovery by the poet's book Songs Delia Dominguez near Osorno, quote from Notimex "The work in question was written in 1967 for the benefit of the Young Communists and, although it was an edition of 100 copies, never went on sale"

Delia Dominguez has the same literary agent Neruda Foundation, Carmen Balcells, this peculiarity creates enormous confusion, being judge and party. Nobody has denied that "unpublished poems" have already been published. The Neruda Foundation has been silent about the conditions of the contract between the Agency and the publisher Edaf Balcells, like at the news of the "alleged unpublished poems" now owned by Delia Dominguez, where since 1967 belonged to the Communist Youth's Songs near Osorno.

In the notes Hernan Loyola for the Complete Works of Neruda, speaks of a partial edition of The Barcarolle (1967), entitled Songs near Osorno, a booklet of 20 pages, with a 13x10 cm format, printing done by Cervantes in Osorno, Chile. Culmination of quote: "This edition consists of 20 luxury paper copies signed by the author bluish, foliated 1 to 20, and 200 copies in colored newsprint." (Neruda, Selected Works, Volume III, Galaxia Gutenberg, 1999-2000, pp. 230-233). Everything matches the description of Delia Dominguez makes "unpublished poems Neruda alleged", for example, beginning with the title Songs near Osorno, and who are inspired by the beaches and are Pucatrihue 1967. In the event that the 20 booklets Songs craft near Osorno not been able to sell, and that 200 copies either, that does not make unpublished.

Just after the Pinochet coup, Pablo Neruda died of cancer (23 September 1973), Matilde Urrutia is when most need the support of their friends. From fear by the disappearance of his driver, Matilde imagined I could trust Delia Dominguez, to take her back to Santiago, from Isla Negra, but 'till then friend "denied home and" never called. " Matilde in her memoir, My Life with Pablo Neruda (Seix Barral, 1986) says a poet Osorno (Delia Dominguez): First Chapter disappointments. Fear, quote: "And there, in front of the hotel, leaving me with my small suitcase and my big baggage of problems. She was busy, I had to sing to life, love, nature. Never called me. It was irrelevant, taught me that my problems were mine and I had to solve alone (Urrutia, M. pp.167). Now regains importance this background, against the "alleged unpublished poems", how would they do to lack Matilde had he known the existence of new verses. Delia Dominguez announced the alleged possession of unpublished poems by Neruda, once she lost the National Literature Prize 2004 (deservedly given the poet Armando Uribe, on Monday August 9, 2004), not before, despite the Neruda Centennial dates (July 12, 2004) would have given his "finding" an international relevance.

Are we again face fraud ribs editorial Pablo Neruda? Does Balcells Agency can do it all behind the Neruda Foundation? Kind?, The silence of the Neruda Foundation and the excessive powers of the Agency Balcells, or does it really is a second edition of Songs near Osorno? In that case, I would offer my apologies for the unprecedented academic quality of the poems, but never forget the saying "beds in hospitals and in prison is known to friends," if ever Delia Dominguez presented as friend Neruda-Urrutia marriage, to turn away when the military terror was relentless, that cowardice, desmerita to the "two" Songs near Osorno.
